Flagstaff Hill was first subdivided by Hooker Rex from 1967, with the original release of blocks selling out by 1984. From 1985 the suburb expanded south and west into former Craigburn Farm land, where Essington Ltd ran a release that preserved larger trees and waterways and followed the contours of the site. The result is a low-density stock of single-storey brick and brick-veneer detached homes on generous blocks, sitting on the elevated ground above Sturt Gorge.
That build history shows up in four issues we see across the area week after week. The first is ageing storage hot water systems. The first wave of homes from the late 1960s and 1970s reached storage replacement territory years ago, and the larger 1980s and early 1990s build-out is now cycling through the same end-of-life replacements. The second is slope drainage.
